Fair Play Rules
Effective date: October 3, 2026 · Beta
Leaderboards on PixelJS are only fun when every result on them was earned. These Fair Play Rules explain what is allowed, how we check results, and what happens when the rules are broken. They are part of our Terms of Service.
The rules
- One account per person. Do not use several accounts, and do not share an account.
- Play the game yourself. No bots, scripts, macros, auto-clickers, or any other automation.
- Use the game as published. Do not modify a game, its files, your browser, or the messages between the game and PixelJS, and do not submit results by any means other than playing.
- Report bugs instead of using them. If you find a bug that gives impossible scores or skips parts of a game, tell the creator or report it to us. Results that use such a bug may be removed.
- No boosting. Do not help another account climb a leaderboard, or let someone else play for you on a leaderboard.
- Creators keep their hands off. Creators must not add, inflate, or remove results on any leaderboard, including their own. They can report results, and only PixelJS staff remove them.
- No prizes, no trading. Results, ranks, experience points, achievements, and badges have no monetary value and cannot be bought, sold, traded, or exchanged for anything.
Playing online
The same rules apply in online play, plus three more: do not harass, insult or threaten other players (with names, emotes or in-game actions); do not leave matches on purpose to spoil them for others, again and again; and do not try to identify or contact other players outside PixelJS. You can block a player from the room screen, so you are never matched together again, and report them; our staff review every report. Online results are not ranked during the beta.
How we check results
Games run in your browser, so results could be forged. We use several layers to limit that:
- Every game declares its limits. The game's manifest says which levels and leaderboards exist, the lowest and highest possible values, and how fast a score can grow. Results outside those limits are refused.
- Every run is checked. A result must come from a level that was started and finished on PixelJS, must not take less time than the game allows, and must not report more game time than really passed.
- Unusual results wait for review. A result far above the current top ten, a new account entering the top ten of a large leaderboard, or a result from a player with an open report may be held for review. Held results are shown only to their player, marked "Under review". If nobody reports them, they become visible after 72 hours; staff can still remove them later.
- Verified results. For some games, the server replays the run from its recorded inputs and confirms the score. Those results show a ✓ Verified mark.
- Reports. Anyone signed in can report a result with the flag next to it on a leaderboard. Our staff review every report.
No system catches everything. When we find a result that breaks these rules, we remove it, even if it was not caught at first.
What happens when the rules are broken
Depending on how serious and how repeated the problem is:
- The result is removed from every period of the leaderboard (all-time, monthly, weekly, and daily), and the player is told in their notifications.
- Leaderboard ban. The player can still play, but their results stay private and never appear on public leaderboards.
- Suspension. For serious or repeated cheating, or for creators who manipulate leaderboards, we may suspend the account or the channel under our Terms of Service.
If you think we made a mistake, you can appeal through our contact page. Tell us the game, the leaderboard, and why you think the decision was wrong.
Your privacy on leaderboards
Leaderboards show your public handle and preset avatar, never your name. You can stop appearing on public leaderboards at any time in your profile settings: your results then stay visible only to you. Players under 18 appear only with their handle and avatar, and their profiles are private. See our Privacy Policy.
Events
Events are time-limited leaderboards on one or more games. Players who take part earn an event badge, and the top ten earn a top-ten badge. There are no prizes. The same rules apply to event results.
