Effective date: October 1, 2026 · Beta
These Creator Terms apply to anyone who has a creator account on PixelJS or publishes games on the Service. Creators are also called game producers. These terms add to our Terms of Service, and our Content Policy and Copyright Policy also apply to you. If these Creator Terms conflict with the Terms of Service, these Creator Terms control for your activities as a creator. Terms defined in the Terms of Service, such as "Service," have the same meaning here.
By creating a creator account or publishing a game, you agree to these Creator Terms.
1. Joining as a creator
- During the beta, creator accounts are by invitation only. You can request an invitation through our contact page, and we decide whom to invite.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You sign in at app.pixeljs.com with your email address and password. Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- If you create an account for a company or other organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms on its behalf.
2. Your channel
Your games appear on your channel, which has its own address on pixeljs.com (for example, example.pixeljs.com). Your channel name and profile, including your bio, avatar, banner, and links, must follow the Content Policy.
You may use your channel name and address while your account is in good standing, but they remain part of the Service. PixelJS may reclaim a channel name, and its address, if the name impersonates others, infringes a trademark, or is inactive.
3. Publishing and review
- Review. PixelJS staff review every new game version and every listing change before it is published. We may approve a submission, ask for changes, or decline it. Approval is not an endorsement, and you remain responsible for your content.
- Age rating. You choose your game's age rating: Everyone, Everyone 10+, or Teen (13+). We check it during review. Games that would need a Mature or Adults-only rating are not accepted.
- Technical rules. Your game must run self-contained in the PixelJS sandbox on play.pixeljs.com. It must not make undisclosed network requests to third parties, collect personal information from players, track or fingerprint players, or attempt to escape the sandbox or access other sites.
4. Ownership and license
You keep ownership of your games and other content. These terms do not transfer any ownership to PixelJS.
To run and promote the Service, you grant PixelJS a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, distribute, publicly perform, and publicly display your game and its listing, on the Service and in promotion of the Service.
- Adapt means technical changes only: compressing, transcoding, and resizing files, and generating thumbnails and previews. We do not otherwise change your game.
- The same license applies to your channel profile, so that we can display it on your channel.
- We may display your channel name with your games to identify you as their creator.
- We may exercise this license through the service providers that help us run the Service, such as our hosting and content delivery providers.
How long the license lasts. The license lasts until the content is removed from the Service. After that, copies may remain in backups and caches for a reasonable period, and we may keep copies indefinitely where they are needed for legal compliance, such as records of moderation decisions or copyright notices.
Your use of the PixelJS engine to build games is governed by the engine's open-source license, not by these terms.
5. Your promises
When you publish content on PixelJS, you promise that:
- you own the content or have all the rights, licenses, and permissions needed to publish it and to grant the license above, including for code, art, music, sound, fonts, and third-party libraries;
- the content complies with these terms, the Content Policy, and the law;
- the age rating you choose is accurate; and
- your game contains no malicious code, such as malware, cryptocurrency miners, exploits, or code that tracks players or tries to escape the sandbox.
6. No payments during the beta
During the beta, there are no payments or revenue sharing of any kind. PixelJS does not pay creators for their games, and the license above is royalty-free. If we introduce payments or revenue sharing, we will update these terms before they begin.
7. Removal, suspension, and termination
PixelJS may remove any content, suspend any channel, or terminate any account, including if we believe you have violated these terms or our policies, if the law requires it, or to protect players, other creators, or the Service. The Content Policy explains strikes and appeals, and the Copyright Policy explains copyright strikes and counter-notices.
You may remove your games or close your account at any time. If you need help, contact us through our contact page.
When an account is closed or terminated, its channel and games are removed from the Service, and we keep related information only as described in our Privacy Policy. Sections 4 (for the periods it describes), 5, 8, and 10 continue to apply after your account ends.
8. Responsibility for your content
You are responsible for the content you publish. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless PixelJS and its owners, staff, and service providers from and against any third-party claim arising from your content, including a claim that it infringes someone's rights or violates the law, and from any resulting damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees.
9. Communications
We may contact you at the email address on your account about your account, your games, review and moderation decisions, and changes to these terms. These messages are part of having a creator account. If we send you promotional emails, they will include a way to unsubscribe.
10. Changes and general terms
- Changes. We may update these Creator Terms. We will post the updated terms on this page with a new effective date and give notice on the site. If you keep using your creator account after the changes take effect, you accept the updated terms.
- Relationship. You and PixelJS are independent of each other. These terms do not create a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship.
- Terms of Service. The provisions of the Terms of Service on disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law, and general matters also apply to these Creator Terms.
